Following their disagreement on the matter, Lily thinks Marshall made up the Jenkins kissing story to settle the feud. Marshall convinces Jenkins to explain to Lily what happened as he thinks it will settle the reacher-settler dispute when in reality Jenkins simply wishes to express remorse for any wrongdoing.
Later at the bar Lily is told by Jenkins that she kissed Marshall, whereupon Lily takes off her jacket, scarf, and jewelry, punches her in the face, and proceeds to beat her senseless. Whether she still works at GNB after that is unknown.
In the past she assumed the Jenkins in Marshall's entertaining stories was a man. She at first doesn't believe Marshall when he says Jenkins kissed her but then proceeds to beat Jenkins senseless after Jenkins' confession.
Barney Possible one-night stand : At the college bar, Barney reveals his intention to sleep with Jenkins to Marshall and Ted. According to the tenets of Stinsonian logic, if Barney made clear to the gang he wished to 'bang' Jenkins and we rely on the fundamental assumption Barney Stinson 'always gets the yes,' Barney may have very well been the guy Jenkins slept with in the mail room.
Furthermore, a man of such sexual stature, Barney would have assumed a stance of modesty following the incident, explaining why he did not spread news of his conquest to the gang. Where Were We? Do I Know You? And while that never entirely materialized, the show has had a bit of a tough time writing the characters since that point. NPH was, of course, behind the camera directing the episode, but the few scenes he had were Barney at his most one-dimensional, discussing a Robin Drinking Game of his own and talking about sleeping with Jenkins.
Plus, I like stories that come full circle, and having Robin start as the butt of the joke but then turning it around on Ted and his class made for a nice coda, which is always nice to see.
As for the Jenkins story itself, I thought Amanda Peet did a fine job in the role of the temporarily androgynous lawyer, although the story was clearly not built around her. It was really all about the moments with Lily and Marshall discussing who is the Settler and who is the Reacher, and their argument about whether the kiss actually happened, and Lily eventually punching out Jenkins. However, the show can only play this card so many times before the point becomes moot: Lily and Marshall are together forever, and no other woman is going to get in their way.
My favorite episodes are when Marshall introduces a Seinfeldian element to the series. The search for the best burger and in this episode the skee ball champion. I wish they would write these type of episodes more. In fact it would be interesting to see something similar for Lily. However, the conversation of reacher and settler made me think of the relationship of Chris and Carla Turk on Scrubs. Who is the reacher and settler there? There is a specific episode where Carla is bent on making Turk jealous but he just never seems to be.
However, in the pilot Carla gets Turk naked with the implication and just leaves him there.
