What is the difference between timer and stopwatch

Something like how Youtube videos measure the time elapsed and the fact that they can change the time intervals. So, which of the two do you think I should choose? Timer or StopWatch? I'm just coding a Windows Form Application, by the way.

I'm simulating something and I want the user to be able to speed up whenever he or she wishes to. Simple as this may be, I wish to implement a proper approach. Timer is good when we need to execute some task in certain time interval without blocking anything. Stopwatch is good when we need to watch the time and get some additional information about how much elapsed processor ticks does the method take etc.

This has already been covered in a number of other questions including here. Basically, you can either have Stopwatch with a Speed factor then the result is your "elapsed time". A more complicated approach is to implement Timer and changing the Interval property. How are we doing? Please help us improve Stack Overflow. Take our short survey. For example, in order to note down the functioning of a motor, you would set the timer and see how much time it requires to complete the task. Alternatively, you can set a goal for yourself by setting a timer for a particular task and then rush to know how much time it took you to perform some particular work.

Counter is used to check the number of frequencies of the happening of a particular event. It should be noted here that an individual can use a timer for the purpose of a counter but a counter cannot be used as a timer. The reason is that a counter is used to figure out the frequency of happenings of a program while the timer not only does that but it also notes the total time required to accomplish the task.

Stopwatch : this tattoo design usually honours a timed event in one's personal life, like a personal best in a race.

Timeless Clock: this tattoo design features a clock face with no hands, and it symbolizes losing track of time or disregard for the passage of time. Stopwatch , a handheld timepiece. Samuel Watson. That means the stopwatch is extremely precise —it always gets the same measurement. So timer can be used as two way, timer for execution or as a counter.

This is true for both analog, mechanical, digital what ever it is. You can make something useful by using different set of rules with timer or counter. Either by execution a certain period of pre defined time or counting. Their purpose is to control an event based on time. Analog timers have a hour dial that mechanically advances as time passes.

When the dial reaches a pin or tripper, the light comes on and stays on until the timer advances to the next trip or pin position on the dial. Timers in microcontroller.

The timer is an important application in Embedded systems, it maintains the timing of an operation in sync with a system clock or an external clock. The timer has so many applications such as measure time generating delays, they can also be used for generating baud rates. Open your phone's Clock app. At the top, tap Timer.

Enter how long you want the timer to run. Tap Start.
